Social Media
So - my "likes" are now private; I have had to enter my birthdate, which I kept private but X wants to make that public (for what reason I can't fathom); and of course many of the people I follow have migrated elsewhere. I haven't mentioned - probably don't need to - the very strange place that the former Twitter has become in the last couple of years.
I can use Bluesky for writing-related posts, and elsewhere for environment and science - with perhaps the occasional crossover posts. I need to do a bit of research as there are many new platforms. I am also signed up to Substack, where I follow mostly other writers and publishers.
I will miss some of the people I still follow on X, but hope to find them elsewhere.
Update:
The observant reader will have noticed that I returned to X for several months. I realised that I needed that kind of platform as well as this website, which to begin with had very few visitors. I also needed to build up my Bluesky account.
My account on Bluesky has now reached healthy numbers, and I will be leaving X definitively on 15th February 2025. I have no wish to support a person who, unelected, is dismantling the United States Government, has Fascist beliefs (and is rich and powerful enough to enact them), and is preventing aid from getting to the world's poorest, amongst many other things. Few could have seen this coming, this fast, and I certainly didn't, last June.
However, there is a saying that when someone tells you who they are, believe them.
